Non-fictionTail building instructions(Note: Long ago, this page used to be at http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~ukjp/uncitail.html, but that site sadly went offline. So, with the help of the Wayback Machine, I retrived an old page of the page, and put it up here. I've changed the HTML a little, but all of the text and pictures are intact. Enjoy! -- Doug)
The Furry PoemSubmitted by dmuth on Sun, 2006-01-15 17:30. Non-fictionA poem by Croc O'Dile of TigerMUCK which captures a bit of what it is to be furry. If the true meaning of furry you wish to understand
You must sort through the hype and the exploitation
It is not a gimmick or a political movement
The Furry Code 1.3Submitted by dmuth on Sun, 2006-01-15 17:29. Non-fictionThe Code of the FurriesVersion 1.3Ross Smith (alien@netlink.co.nz) 7-Feb-98 ContentsIntroductionIn the spirit of Robert Hayden's Geek Code, Peter Caffin's Goth Code, Jayne Alexander and Dave Ratcliffe's Cat Code, and other similar codes that have cropped up all over Usenet, I thought it was time us furries had a code of our own. (Or, to put it another way, it was Sunday afternoon, I'd read all my Usenet news, it was too wet to go to the zoo, and I had nothing intelligent to do.) Why
a page about furry media? Tips For Congoers on Strict BudgetsSubmitted by dmuth on Sun, 2006-01-15 17:24. Non-fictionBy Vulpin
As someone who used to go to cons relatively cash-poor a while ago, I figured some of my survival techniques might be appreciated. So, here goes... First, remember that missing a convention won't be the end of your life. If, in the final analysis, you just can't make it and be able to eat, sleep, and bathe, save your money for next year, or the year after that. Next, keep in mind that you absolutely need to eat, sleep, and bathe. I've found that furries tend to be better as a rule about bathing, but all three are essential for different reasons. Keeping these in mind, here are some tips by category: Tips For Convention GoersSubmitted by dmuth on Sun, 2006-01-15 17:22. Non-fiction(by which is meant, "Where, how and when to leave a tip when traveling to a convention.")
America is a truly unique culture when it comes to gratuities. Nowhere else in the world has the practice of "leaving a tip" become so integral a part of both the national mindset and the national economy. It is a practice so deeply ingrained that many people working in service industries are paid salaries well below the Federal Minimum Wage, since there is an expectation that the workers will earn enough in tips to make up the difference. Oddly enough, many Americans (and one might argue "most" Americans) do not have the faintest idea of when it is expected to leave a tip, or how much to leave, or even how to deliver the gratuity. There are even variations from region to region within the United States, such that individuals visiting from afar may inadvertently cause insult to a server while believing that they are delivering a compliment.
