Looking for a bit of info

Hi,

I'm from the UK and I'm studying a Masters Degree in contemporary English Literature. For my dissertation I've decided to look at anthropomorphism in contemporary literature, and its implications in upholding Descartes assertion that humans have more reason then animals. I've been looking around to find contemporary novels which contain elements of anthropomorphism, and whilst doing so found out about Furry Fandom.

This is not something I have heard about before, but have been browsing the internet and I do now have an idea of what its about. I was wondering if you were aware of any published literature on the subject. I'd also really appreciate any suggestions of contemporary literature that contains anthropomorphic characters. So far I have picked up: 'Great Apes' by Will Self, 'The Lives of Animals' by JM Coetzee, 'Elizabeth Costello' by JM Coetzee, 'Unspoken' by Angela Hunt, 'Animals' by Keith Ridgway, 'If Animals could speak' by Don LoCicero, 'Furry! The worlds best anthropomorphic fiction!' a collection, as well as some children's literature such as 'The Dark Materials Trilogy' by Phillip Pullman, 'Not the end of the world' by Geraldine McCaughrean, several of the recent Dick King-Smith books, and a few novels by Michael Morpurago, as well as some others. I'm also ordering the 'Animal Man' collection by Grant Morrison.

I've also picked up some critical texts, such as 'Animals' and 'Perceiving Animals' both by Erica Fudge, 'Animal Rights and the politics of Literary Representation' by John Simons, Animals in Translation: 'The Woman Who Thinks Like a Cow' by Temple Grandin (a crossover book), and there are a few others I have on order.

I've listed all the books I have just to give an idea of what I'm looking for, and what I already have. Where the area of Fury Fandom is all new to me it would be a great help if anyone could recommend some books, either containing anthropomorphic characters or on Furry Fandom itself. Stories published on the web are also useful, but for the purpose of my dissertation where possible I need literature that has been published in books in the last 10years or so.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Joe

Hmm.. you could probably get a decent sized list of books and other literature over on WikiFur. I believe they have a categroy for books there.
